MEDIA ADVISORY: At Press Conference Thursday, a Coalition Will Call for a Special Prosecutor to Investigate and Prosecute Crimes Committed by Federal Agents During “Operation Midway Blitz”

CHICAGO — At a press conference on Thursday, a broad coalition of organizations, officials, and individuals will call for the appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate and prosecute alleged crimes committed by federal agents during “Operation Midway Blitz.”

WHAT: A press conference announcing a petition for the appointment of a special prosecutor.

WHEN: Thursday, March 12, at 12:00PM

WHERE: Federal Plaza, Dearborn & Adams, Chicago

WHO: A coalition of more than 200 elected officials, community organizations, journalists, attorneys, academics, religious leaders, and other stakeholders.

BACKGROUND

Throughout the fall of 2025, as part of “Operation Midway Blitz,” federal agents of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)—under the guise of conducting immigration enforcement operations—terrorized Cook County communities. They committed assault and battery against peaceful civilians, members of the clergy, and reporters without provocation; illegally kidnapped and detained an elected official and others; tear-gassed entire neighborhoods; and shot multiple people, killing at least one. Federal agents conspired to commit these crimes, and they obstructed justice and perjured themselves under oath to protect themselves from accountability.

Most of these crimes committed by federal agents were not only witnessed but were also captured on camera. Dozens of sworn declarations about crimes, and hundreds of hours of video footage, were submitted as evidence in federal court proceedings. Yet there has been no federal or state investigation or prosecution of any the individuals who perpetrated these offenses.

An independent, special prosecutor is essential to ensure that there is accountability in Cook County.

On Thursday, representatives of the more than 200 individual and organizational signatories to the petition will address and take questions from the media. Additional signatories will be available for interviews following the conference.

All members of the media are encouraged to attend.
