A federal court in Vermont recently found that a local school board in Vermont violated the right to free speech under the First Amendment and to due process under the Fourteenth Amendment by banning a parent from attending local school board meetings for two years. The parties then reached a settlement of nearly $150,000.
Unfortunately, local governments all too often run roughshod over the free speech, Freedom of Information Act, and Open Meetings Act rights of citizens who speak out against government officials. Our attorneys have experience in these areas and are dedicated to protecting the public’s right to free speech and government transparency.
