We are accepting applications for a Civil Rights Attorney. Prior experience litigating civil rights cases is helpful but not required. We are seeking applicants who have at least one to two years of legal experience (including clerkships). Applicants with significantly more experience are also encouraged to apply.
Requirements:
- Demonstrated leadership
- Depth of knowledge and experience in civil rights and civil litigation
- Exceptional writer
- Excellent communication and client relationship skills

- Strong commitment to ethics, justice, teamwork, and respect for human dignity
- Licensed in Illinois and/or able to waive into Illinois
- Skills and ability to manage a high volume case load

Job Duties:
Attorneys can expect to work primarily on the firm’s wrongful conviction and police misconduct cases, but will be welcome, based on interest, to help with our firm’s other civil rights, whistleblower and False Claims Act, privacy and transparency cases too.
- Build strong relationships with clients whose lives have been impacted by miscarriages of justice
- Evaluate and investigate cases for merit throughout litigation
- Manage and conduct discovery and investigations
- Taking and defending depositions
- Draft and edit briefs at all stages of litigation
- Prepare cases for trial and participate in trial, with the goal of eventually leading trial teams
- Prepare and argue appellate cases
- Supervise, mentor and support junior attorneys and paralegals
- Contribute to a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Develop and maintain relationships with community stakeholders

This job will be based in Chicago. We currently operate under a hybrid schedule, with the general expectation of being in the office at least three days per week.
