Maggie Filler

Attorney

Biography

Maggie E. Filler joined Loevy + Loevy in 2025. Prior to joining the firm, Maggie was an attorney in the Civil Rights Division of the United States Department of Justice in the Special Litigation Section. In that role, Maggie worked on behalf of the United States to enforce civil rights laws in prisons and jails around the country, and to remedy inhumane conditions of confinement. In 2024, Maggie received a Special Commendation for her work at DOJ promoting civil rights.

Previously, Maggie was a lawyer at the MacArthur Justice Center in Chicago, where she frequently co-counseled with Loevy & Loevy to pursue justice for people harmed by the criminal legal system. She also represented people confined to lengthy periods of solitary confinement in prisons and jails, and she instructed clinical law students at Northwestern law school through the MacArthur Justice Center’s clinical law program.

Maggie started her legal career at Prisoners’ Legal Services of Massachusetts, advocating for the rights of people incarcerated in her home state. She has clerked for two federal judges, the Honorable Myron H. Thompson of the Middle District of Alabama, and the Honorable Marsha S. Berzon of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
