CHICAGO, Il. – Jimmy Soto was just 20 years old in 1981, when several members of the Chicago Police Department and Cook County prosecutors conspired to frame him for a crime he didn’t commit. Last December, after fighting tirelessly to clear his name, Mr. Soto finally had his conviction vacated after serving more than 42 years in prison—longer than any other known wrongfully convicted person in Illinois history.
On Tuesday, attorneys from civil rights law firm Loevy + Loevy will file a federal lawsuit on Mr. Soto’s behalf, seeking damages for this injustice from dozens of Chicago police officers, three Cook County Assistant State’s Attorneys, Cook County, and the City of Chicago.
Following the filing, Mr. Soto and his attorneys will be speaking and taking questions about the lawsuit, and about Mr. Soto’s remarkable story of perseverance.
All members of the media and other interested parties are invited.
