FOIA Paralegal Position

Loevy + Loevy is a national leader in litigating First Amendment, Freedom of Information Act, and other transparency and media related cases.  We are accepting applications for a FOIA Paralegal primarily to coordinate the team’s intake process. 

Our clients range from national, local, and international news organizations, freelance journalists, documentarians, and podcasters to advocacy organizations, concerned individuals seeking to better participate in their local democracies, incarcerated individuals seeking to challenge their convictions, and businesses looking for information to help them compete or address government impropriety that affects them.

Required:       

  • Bachelor’s degree, associate degree with Paralegal certification, or equivalent experience
  • Strong writing and research skills
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently

Desired:

  • Prior paralegal or journalism experience is helpful but not required

This FOIA paralegal position will be heavily involved in the intake process for the FOIA team, as well as other special projects as needed.  We are looking for someone who will bring diligence, creativity, and fearlessness to their work, and who shares our values of working in a collaborative manner.  Primary job duties will include coordinating a high volume of intakes, frequent client communications (email and phone), summarizing and reviewing all inquiries with supervising attorneys and presenting them at weekly meetings, synthesizing legal advice from attorneys for clients, and drafting complaints, appeal letters, and FOIA requests.

This job will be based in Chicago. We currently operate under a hybrid schedule, with the general expectation of being in the office at least three days per week.  Compensation will include full benefits, including fully paid employee and dependent health coverage and life insurance, employer-funded HRA accounts, and dental, vision and 401(k) plans, and generous time off.

Salary:

$55,000-65,000/ year (DOE) plus competitive bonuses
