Related to police brutality, excessive police force is another highly specialized field. Because our attorneys litigate so many police brutality cases, Loevy & Loevy has developed the knowledge and experience needed to put together a successful case for each of our clients.

The more times a law firm litigates police misconduct issues such as police brutality, excessive force, and illegal search and seizure, the better it can serve its clients. Our firm litigates more than twice as many excessive use of force cases as any other firm in Chicago.

RECOVERIES FOR ALL DAMAGES DUE TO POLICE BRUTALITY

Additionally, what makes our firm so unique in this area is that we also take on plenty of meritorious but "small" cases. Unlike most other firms, our lawyers do not rule out a potential client simply because getting beat up by a cop did not result in broken bones or permanent injuries.

Rather, we also represent many people who were subjected to police violence where the damages were more emotional than physical. This approach is consistent with our firm's philosophy that we fight to remedy injustice even where the principle may be more significant than the potential damages in strictly dollar terms.

Many of our cases are against the City of Chicago, but we have successfully handled matters for our clients in cities and towns throughout the Chicagoland area, as well as other municipalities and counties throughout Illinois and in many other states. If you were a victim of police brutality or excessive force, contact Loevy & Loevy.

Over the past decade, Loevy & Loevy has brought hundreds of excessive force cases. The following is a sample of these cases, and the success we achieved:

Joseph Regalado: Mr. Regalado was beaten into a coma by two Chicago police officers. The $28 million jury award is still the highest amount ever awarded in history against the City of Chicago.

Sayyid Qadri: Mr. Qadri beaten in a bathroom stall in the Evanston Police Department. The case drew widespread public outcry because parts of the beating were captured on videotape and shown on the television news. Evanston fired some of the officers involved and settled the case for $250,000.

Sam Gardino: Chicago police officers kicked Mr. Gardino in the spleen during an arrest, causing internal injuries. The case was settled for $260,000.

Paul Daval: Mr. Daval was dragged, kicked and beaten by a group of Chicago police officers at a block party. The case settled for $80,000.

Tyrone McClinton: After being hit by a Chicago police squad car, Mr. McClinton was dragged from his car and beaten, after which the police threatened to plant drugs on him if he reported the car accident. After the police officers were identified in litigation, the case settled for $45,000.

Helen Kies: Saw a police officer being too rough with a child at her school and when she attempted to intervene, the officer slapped her in the face and falsely arrested her. The case settled for $50,000.

Jihad Rashid: Our client was beaten for nothing more than "mouthing off" during an altercation with police officers at the Taste of Chicago. The case settled last year for $60,000.

Marcos Medina: Two Chicago police officers saw Mr. Medina running to his car in the winter (returning from a video store) and assumed incorrectly that he was carrying drugs. They accosted him and choked him, but ultimately did not charge him because he had committed no crime. The case settled for more than $50,000.

Jeremy Kunz: Led the Chicago police on a high-speed chase in a stolen car, and was beaten by multiple officers once they caught him. The case was tried before Judge Zagel in August of 2005 and the jury awarded $25,000 in compensatory damages and $250,000 in punitive damages against the police officer who hit and kicked him.

Jimmy Saunders: Beaten up outside a Harvey nightclub by two Harvey police officers. The case settled for more than $70,000.

Terrence Hampton: Seventeen-year-old boy was struck in the face with a chair by a police officer, breaking his nose. The case settled for $91,000.

Eva Renteria: Chicago police officers responding to a call at Ms. Renteria's home wrongfully arrested her and maliciously twisted her arm while handcuffing her, breaking her elbow. The case settled for $47,500.

Armando Lucas: During a shoplifting arrest, a police officer struck our client in the head, an incident that was caught on videotape. The case settled last year for $80,000.
