FIRM PHILOSOPHY

Loevy & Loevy receives hundreds of inquiries every year from people seeking representation. The guiding principle governing our case-selection decisions can be summarized very simply: achieving justice. We will accept a case only if it fits with our sense of righting an injustice, with an emphasis on an ACLU-style protection of constitutional and civil rights.

The net result is an eclectic mix of interesting cases, including those involving police brutality, wrongful convictions, excessive force, coerced confessions, unjustified shootings, planted evidence, illegal searches and Fourth Amendment violations, unlawful arrests, employment discrimination, retaliatory actions, class actions, and other civil rights violations Virtually every one of our cases makes a fascinating story.

HISTORY OF THE FIRM

After leaving the law firm then known as Sidley & Austin, attorney Jon Loevy started the firm in 1997, first as a solo practitioner and then in partnership with his wife, Danielle Loevy. Since then, Arthur Loevy, a University of Michigan Law School graduate, has joined the partnership, as has Mike Kanovitz, a Cornell Law School graduate, who previously worked at a class action law firm in Washington, D.C.

In addition to the four partners, Loevy & Loevy has added eight other lawyers over the years including, most recently, Brad Block, a lateral transfer who graduated from Harvard Law School; Gayle Horne, an NYU graduate who clerked for Judge Milton Shadur; Samantha Liskow, a graduate of Columbia Law School; Mark Reyes, a Cornell graduate who joined the firm after working for a legal assistance organization in Vermont; Russell Ainsworth and Amanda Antholt, both graduates of Wisconsin Law School; Kurt Feuer, a lateral transfer from Ross & Hardies; and Jon Rosenblatt, who left McDermott Will & Emery to join Loevy & Loevy in 2000. Office managers and paralegals Jessica Sauvageau, Ellie Cotter, Andy Thayer, and Kathleen Rubenstein complete the Loevy & Loevy legal team.

Our lawyers and legal team at Loevy & Loevy focus their practice on civil rights violations, whistleblower cases, class actions, and First Amendment violations throughout Chicago, the state of Illinois, and many other states.

CASE SELECTION

Before the firm decides whether or not to accept any given case, we spend a substantial amount of time investigating the claims and meeting with prospective clients. The reason Loevy & Loevy chooses so carefully is because once we decide to represent a client and file a lawsuit, or pursue a class action, we make a very serious commitment to win.

This commitment to winning applies to every single case we take on, from the biggest to the smallest. We devote however much lawyer time and financial resources are necessary to prevail, which is typically hundreds of attorney hours and thousands of dollars in out-of-pocket expenses. Given the level of commitment that we bring to every case, we are particularly selective about taking only cases that we believe have merit.

Because Loevy & Loevy works so closely with our clients in pursuing their cases, it is also important that we only take cases in which we feel we can develop positive relationships with our clients. Indeed, the many strong and enduring relationships Loevy & Loevy has built with our clients is one of the most rewarding aspects of our work, and many of our clients share our appreciation for the bonds we have built.
